At a time when there are reports of Nepali migrant workers returning home due to global financial crisis, the total remittance inflows till mid-February of the current fiscal year crossed Rs 100 billion with an increment by 67 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to Nepal Rastra Bank data, the total remittance inflows during the seven months of the current fiscal year was Rs 100.7 billion whereas it was Rs 60 billion during same period last year.
Although, reports said that more than 2,500 Nepali workers, who had left the country for foreign jobs, have returned home within last few months. Most of them have returned from Malaysia, Dubai and Qatar.
Remittance contributes more than 17 percent in total of Nepali GDP.
