Chandi Raj Dhakal, president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) has fled away from his home when a police team reached to arrest him Tuesday morning.
According to Metropolitan Police Sector Office, Swayambhu, a 9-member police team under the command of Inspector Surendra Mainali had reached Dhakal's private residence at Sitapaila Colony at about 9:30 am.
"We carried out searches in the houses," Mainali said. "But none of the family members was found in the house at the moment. A guard deputed at the house said Dhakal had gone to Bhaktapur."
RID has accused Dhakal's Memento Apparels, the largest garment factory in the country, of cheating Rs 8.6 million in customs duty by producing forged documents at the bonded warehouse. Once Dhakal is arrested and produced at RID, he will have to deposit a bail amount of Rs 25.5 million to avoid detention.
Police have put Dhakal under vigil. "I have deputed plainclothes police personnel and also asked the Control Room vehicle to provide information of his arrival," he said. "We have been asked to hand over Dhakal to Revenue Investigation Department (RID) immediately after arrest."
