Richard Boucher, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia has said that the Maoists can't be trusted even though the latter have already joined the interim government.
In his meeting with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala in New Delhi on the sidelines of 14th SAARC Summit, the senior US official is learnt to have reiterated the US position vis-à-vis the Maoists – that their behavior is yet to change.
PM Koirala's foreign affairs advisor Dr. Suresh Chalise quoted Boucher as saying so.
Boucher told PM Koirala that US still had some issues with the Maoists and wanted to see how they change their behavior in coming days.
Meanwhile, Dr. Chalise further said that Boucher was informed about latest policy of Nepal regarding Bhutanese refugees. PM Koirala is learnt to have told Boucher that Nepal's first priority will be repatriation through verification and, if that cannot happen, then it will allow them to go for third country resettlement. Boucher expressed happiness over this policy.
Boucher is currently in New Delhi to observe the SAARC Summit. Along with the European Union, Japan, China and South Korea, the US is also attending this year's summit as an observer.
Meanwhile, PM Koirala held meeting with Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam at the Rastrapati Bhawan on Tuesday where the two leaders discussed about peace process in Nepal.
