Citing the failure of criteria related to age of aircraft, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has cancelled all the three proposals that it received for leasing an aircraft for a month.
Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has cancelled all the three proposals that it received for leasing an aircraft for a month, citing that they failed to meet a major criteria related to age of aircraft.
A report quoted an officail at the NAC as saying, we cancelled all three proposals as all the offered aircraft were older than 15 years.
“We have begun fresh efforts to acquire an aircraft through a negotiated deal,” quoted a report.
The corporation is trying to lease a Boeing 757-200 aircraft to replace its one of two Boeings that is going for c-check, an overhaul of the aircraft, in Brunei in August.
The NAC published a notice three weeks ago, asking leasing companies to supply a Boeing 757-200 aircraft not older than 15 years. The aircraft to be leased is scheduled to begin flights from August 2.
The troubled NAC is currently relying on two-decade-old aircraft to conduct international flights. Over the years, there were efforts to buy aircraft, but all ended only as reports produced by advisory committees.
This time as well, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation formed a committee to submit a report over the aircraft. But the committee, headed by deputy managing director of the NAC, K B Poudel, has not submitted its report yet.
As the ageing aircraft are showing technical glitches, its almost all international flights were cancelled for a week toward the end of April.
Tourism entrepreneurs have been asking the government to expand its fleet, stating that weak national flag carrier has hindered the tourism industry's growth.
