Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bamdev Gautam on Friday said that the government will release Rs 30 million as immediate relief aid for the flood-hit people of the Far Western districts.
DPM Gautam informed that the government will declare flood-hit areas of Kailali and Kanchanpur districts as 'emergency zones’ in order to make the relief and rehabilitation works more effective.
Talking to journalists at Dhangadi Airport after a two-day inspection visit to far-western flood-hit districts, DPM Gautam, who is also the acting prime minister, said that separate reconstruction and rehabilitation committees will be set up including representatives from political parties and civil society under the leadership of concerned district administrator.
DPM Gautam has also directed the local authorities to select appropriate place for the resettlement of the displaced and to look for provision of proper drinking water and education.
Accompanied by Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Janardan Sharma, Constituent Assembly members representing the districts and government officials, DPM had made an aerial inspection of the Far Western districts including Kailali, Kanchanpur, Bajhang, Baitadi, Doti, Achham and Dadeldhura which were affected by the floods and landslides.
Reports said that Kailali and Kanchapur are the most suffered districts, where more than 24,000 families have been affected by the floods. There are also reports of lack of food and medicine for the displaced people living in the camps.
