Village Development Committee (VDC) secretaries and staffs of 124 VDCs have resigned from their post in Saptari district of eastern Terai. The secretaries had gathered at District Administration Office (DAO) to submit the resignations yesterday. However, the to the administration had not received the resignations.
The VDC secretaries said they were going to send the letters of resignations through post office as Chief District Officer Ganesh Bahadur Khatri citing the reason of off-office hour.
The VDC secretaries have resigned from the posts stating that they could not function due to insecurity. All the staffs of local bodies have been halting all the official works protesting the murder of District Development Committee staff Pravu Narayan Yadav. They have also demanded the declaration of martyr to slain Yadav, compensatory relief and ration to the victim's family and punishment to the culprits involved in the murder.
All the official works in the major government offices including banks, court, land revenue office, land reform office and DAO have been halted due to the protest.
The revenue collection has plunged to three hundred thousand daily due to the closure of custom office.
