The government today has sent a formal letter to the agitating teachers for talks to resolve the ongoing crisis in education sector which has forced around 36,000 schools to shut down and left 7.8 million school-going children at home.

The government sent a formal letter to the Nepal Educational Republican Forum (NERF), which is leading the strike, after the meeting of the govt talks team comprising of Minister for Education and Sports Pradip Nepal, Minister of State for Education and Sports Mohan Singh Rathaour and the Education Ministry decided to that end.

In the letter, the government has vowed to meet the demands put forth by the forum, which includes among other things, providing salaries to private school teachers at par with public school teachers’, appointment letters and implementing the past agreements the government reached with the forum.

The NERF meeting held today morning had also decided to sit for talks with the government to resolve the current deadlock in education sector.
