The meeting of special session of interim legislature parliament has been put off till October 28.
A meeting of top leaders of major political parties held on Tuesday at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's official residence in Baluwatar decided to defer the parliamentary meeting till October 28.
The meeting saw the presence of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, CPN-UML secretary general Madhav Kumar Nepal, Maoist chairman Prachanda and secretary general of United Front-Masal Prakash among other decided to request the speaker to put off the session. The session was put off in the hope of finding out possible grounds of consensus to resolve current impasse facing the nation.
Seven party alliance has not yet been reached consensus to resolve existing political deadlock of the country even after holding several rounds of bilateral, trilateral and multilateral discussions.
One of the major constituencies in ruling allies CPN-UML has filed amendment motion singlehandedly to the special session of interim legislature parliament as it could not collect consent over its new idea to meet the differences among the political parties.
The UML has proposed that the parliament should issue directive to the government for initiating the procedure of declaring federal democratic republic. Finally endorsing fully proportional electoral system, the UML has said government should proceed the adoption fully proportional electoral system in the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.
Maoist is stick with its demand of declaring republic and adopting fully proportional electoral system while Nepali congress has been insisting that mixed electoral system should be adopted in the CA elections.
