The eight parties have reached an agreement to keep Subash Chandra Nemwang as speaker and Chitralekha Yadav as Deputy Speaker of the Interim Parliament. Both Nemwang and Yadav were on the same position in the recently dissolved House of Representatives (HoR).

Earlier Wednesday, eight parties had begun their internal meetings separately to reach an accord to choose new Speaker for the Interim Legislature. The meeting of the interim parliament to be slated Wednesday will proceed the proposal of their positions through election.

The parties had opted for a general consensus to decide on the new Speaker instead of holding elections for the same after CPN-UML and CPN-M both lay claim to the post of Speaker.

Before this, a meeting of the top leaders of four major parties – Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, CPN-M and NC-D – was held at the PM residence, Baluwatar after Tuesday's meeting to decide on the Speaker, Deputy Speaker of the interim legislature ended inconclusively.

Likewise, senior Maoist leader Dr. Baburam Bhattarai had held discussion with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on issues related to the selection of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the interim parliament and formation of interim government at the PM’s residence at Baluwatar Wednesday morning.
