After a week long hectic parleys, three major parties - CPN -Maoist, Nepali Congress and CPN- UML have reached consensus on the draft of the supplementary bill for amendment in the interim constitution.

In a meeting held at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction, political parties arrived at the consensus Friday afternoon.

The leaders have said the demands of the Madesh-based parties will be incorporated in the constitution. However, People’s Front, Nepal Workers Peasant Party and CPN-ML have opposed the agreement stating that the content to be amended indirectly accepts the demand of ‘One Madhesh-One Province’ raised by the Madhesh-based parties.

CPN-UML Secretary General Jhalanath Khanal said Constituent Assembly will discuss on the amendment of article 138 (2) which is now all set to be amended after three parties reached the agreement amidst the disagreement of three small parties.

The draft bill states that delineation of federal units will be done by the proposed State Restructuring Commission as per the agreements reached with various groups including Madhesi parties in the past.

CA members representing Madhesh- based parties Madhesi Janadhikar Forum, Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party and Sadbhawana Party - have been disrupting CA meeting for last eight days to exert pressure on the major parties to agree on their demands.
