The government on Wednesday has decided to install thermal power plants for generating electricity in order to increase power supply.
A cabinet meeting in Singha Durbar took the decision as an alternative means to minimize the on-going power cut, which has been hitting hard in industrial sector and households.
According to Communication minister and government spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara, diesel-operated thermal plants will be set-up in order to increase power supply.
“The government will come up with a detailed plan to attract investors and provide them with government’s aid and assistance to set up thermal power plants,” said Mahara.
Minister for Water Resources Bishnu Paudel has been given the responsibility to table a comprehensive report on the power scenario in the next cabinet meeting.
Currently, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is imposing 45-hour a week power cut following decline in power-generation due to decreased water level in rivers and the reservoirs.
