Three major political parties- CPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN (UML) on Thursday reached consensus on key political issues including army integration and amendment to the interim constitution.

A meeting of top leaders of the three parties held at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's official residence in Baluwatar, have agreed that the provision to be amended in the constitution will allow the formation of the government with a simple majority. Two-third majority is mandatory for the formation of new government in existing provision.

The proposal on constitution amendment is to be tabled at the Constituent Assembly meeting on Friday.

The three parties had already agreed to form a special committee to prepare a framework for integrating Nepal Army and People's Liberation Army during their meeting at the same venue yesterday.

According to senior Maoist leader Ram Bahadur Thapa, three parties have reached an understanding on the aforesaid issues and that there would be further consultation and negotiation on power sharing, return of confiscated property including other issues during the seven- party meeting.
