Presidential candidates of the republic Nepal today pleaded Constituent Assembly members to caste votes on their support from a single dais arguing why they should be elected as the president.
Speaking at an introduction program, presidential candidate proposed by CPN-Maoist, Ram Raja Prasad Singh said he would be active in consolidating federal republican structure of the country. He said that all the political parties should go ahead together to draft a model constitution of Nepal in the map of the world.
Dr. Bam Baran Yadav, candidate from congress in presidential race expressed his commitment to work in favor of national integrity, sovereignty and nationality while UML candidate for the same post Pamprit Paswan plead Constituent Assembly members to caste vote for him making an assessment of the role he played for the establishment of republic.
On the occasion, candidates for vice president had also request to vote them.
Following the failure of major three political parties to nominate a common president, CPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have filed single-handed candidacy for the post of first president of republic Nepal.
Proposed by the CPN-Maoist, pro-republic leader Ramraja Prasad Singh has filed nomination for the president. The Maoist has proposed Shanta Shrestha for vice president's post.
Similarly, Nepali Congress has proposed Rambaran Yadav and Man Bahadur BK for president and vice president respectively. UML leader Ramprit Paswan has filed candidacy for the president and Astha Laxmi Shakya for vice president as per the decision of central committee meeting of CPN-UML.
CPN-UML has accused Maoist of breaking previous agreements while Maoist has said CPN-UML and Congress were responsible for the failure of reaching consensus. On the other hand, Madheshi Janaadhikar Forum who had supported Ram Raja Prasad Singh today said it may not caste votes for him as the Maoist proposed its own candidate for the post of vice president without consulting Forum.
CA members will caste votes to elect president and vice president tomorrow.
