The government has assigned Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula and State Minister for Labor and Transport management Ramesh Lekhak to hold talks with the agitating transport entrepreneurs to resolve the problems at the earliest.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's official residence Baluwatar Monday morning had assigned minister duo Sitaula and Lekhak to initiate talks with the transport entrepreneurs.
Transport entrepreneurs and workers are on strike against the protest called by Madheshi Janaadhikar Forum (MJF) demanding that the roads should be declared zone of peace. The strike has been badly affecting life in eastern hilly and Terai districts.
The cabinet meeting also decided to appeal to all sides not to announce strikes and other disruptive agitations in consideration of the upcoming elections to the Constituent Assembly.
According to sources, the participants of the meeting had criticized the government and the Home Ministry for “weak” security situation in the country and the violation of the past peace agreements by the Maoists.
The meeting also decided to hold talks with the Goit and Jwala Singh factions of the Maoist offshoot Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) stating that the government would fully guarantee their security and revoke the warrant issued against the two groups during the talks.
