Nepal and UAE sign labour agreement on manpower

Nepal and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday have signed a labour agreement on manpower export to the UAE from Nepal.

Minister of State for Labour and Transport Management Ramesh Lekhak and visiting UAE Labour Minister Dr Ali Bin Abdullah Al-Kaabi signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) this aftrnoon.

Addressing the MoU signing programme, Dr. Al Kaabi said, "The MoU primarily targets the protection of workers' right."

Dr. Al Kaabi also praised the contribution of Nepalese workers for the development of his country and expressed his utmost gratefulness on behalf of the UAE.

"Indeed these workers have played and are still playing a major role in the United Arab Emirates economic and social development," Dr. Al Kaabi added.

Dr. Al Kaabi also said that the UAE will provide employments for foreign workers in many sectors such as construction, tourism and manufacture and services.

The UAE Minister had arrived in Nepal yesterday on a three-day visit to sign the MoU.

Talking to the journalist after the signing, Minister Lekhak assured that the MoU will help protect Nepalese worker's right in UAE.

"Nepalese workers will get all facilities according to the law of UAE and it has been guaranteed in this MoU," said Lekhak 

"Nepalese workers will get facilities as per the contract and UAE's law and regulations," said Lekhal, adding, "If they don't get, this MoU has assured provision to file case against employer in the court."  

The UAE is one of the most attractive destinations for migrant workers from various countries, including Nepal.

According to reports, an estimated 150,000 Nepalese are currently working in the UAE.
