The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres, is arriving Nepal Tuesday for a three-day mission in his first official visit to Nepal.

According to the press release issued by UNHCHR in Nepal, commissioner Guterres will meet the Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, high level government officials, heads of UN Agencies and UNHCR’s donors.

"During his visit, the High Commissioner will focus attention on current efforts to alleviate the long-standing plight of the refugees and the need for comprehensive solutions. UNHCR has been very much encouraged by the efforts of a group of interested countries to assist in resolving this protracted situation." UNHCHR said in the release.

Guterres will travel to Goldhap refugee camp in Jhapa district in eastern Nepal on Wednesday in order to get a firsthand view of the situation of the refugees and UNHCR operations.

In co-operation with the National Unit for the Coordination of Refugee Affairs of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the UN refugee agency provides protection and assistance to over 107,000 refugees from Bhutan in seven camps in Jhapa and Morang districts in eastern Nepal, together with the UN World Food Programme and NGO partners.
