A team of two officials from the US State Department's Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM) has arrived in Kathmandu Sunday for a six-day visit to initiate the resettlement process of the Bhutanese refugees.
During their stay in Nepal, Lawrence Bartlett, Deputy Director for Asia and the Near East, and Janice Belz, Deputy Director for Admissions, would review protection, assistance, and durable solutions for Bhutanese and Tibetan refugees in Nepal, a statement by US Embassy said.
The embassy further said that they would meet with representatives of the government of Nepal, UN agencies and the diplomatic community to discuss technical and operational issues related to the proposed US resettlement programme for Bhutanese refugees.
The officials are also scheduled to visit the Bhutanese refugee camps in Jhapa district to meet with members of the refugee community.
