United Nations Mission In Nepal (UNMIN) Thursday completed Nepal Army (NA) arms registration and storage process that had begun Tuesday.
According to UNMIN, the storage process –which was being conducted at Jagadal Platoon in Chhauni barrack—ended this afternoon.
A total of 2900 arms were registered stored, 850 today, 1200 Tuesday and 850 Wednesday.
As per the tripartite agreement signed between the government, the Maoists and the UN, the NA weapons are being stored under UN supervision in the 14 containers placed at the Chhauni barrack.
According to the agreement, the NA will be storing arms equal in number of that locked up by the Maoists.
Earlier, UNMIN had stored 3,500 Maoist arms during the first phase of Maoists’ arms registration at seven different cantonment sites across the country. However, during the process, 96 arms assigned for Maoist leaders’ security and 522 arms assigned for security in camps would not be included for storage, UNMIN stated.
