Pasang Lhamu Mountaineering Foundation (PLMF) observed 14th anniversary of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa’s ascent to the Mount Everest on Monday. The function organized at Pasang Lhamu Memorial in Chuchhepati, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala offered garland to the image of late Pasang Lhamu Sherpa.
Speaking on the occasion, distinguished guest Subhash Chandra Nembwang, Speaker of the interim legislature parliament said that institutionalizing sustainable peace was the immediate necessity of the country. Referring to the contribution of the late Sherpa, he said respecting her was to take bold decision to establish sustainable peaceful country through the election to the Constituent Assembly.
On the occasion, Speaker Nembwang handed over awards, prices and certificates to the winners of National Open Inter Media House Wall Climbing Competition 2007 and top three students who graduated in Travel and Tourism Management.
Speaker Nembwang handed over medals to top three students in Travel and Tourism Management- Amrita Pudasaini, Pramila Rai and Luckey Adhikari. Similarly, winners of the wall climbing competition Dhan Bahadur Khadka, Mudita Bajracharya, Dev Bahadur Kunwar, Dolma Sherpa, Ashok Kumar Rai and Mandira Maharjan were also awarded.
Pasang Lhamu Sherpa is the first lady who ascended the Mount Everest 14 years ago. She had lost her life while descending from the Everest. PLMF, the organization which was established in the memory of late Sherpa, works on mountaineering.
