Though agitating LP Gas (LPG) dealers agreed to resume gas supply, cooking gas will be available in the Kathmandu valley only from Wednesday. The substantial supply of the gas will resume only after 160 LPG-filled tankers stranded at Raxaul will enter in the valley.
The consumers have been still reeling under an acute deficiency of gas. The gas deficiency is persisting for last two week as LP gas dealers Association went on strike from 25 March.
Gas dealers on Sunday agreed to continue gas supply after the discussions between the officials of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and LP gas dealers Association. Both parties have agreed to solve ten point problems of the dealers within ten days.
LPG dealers and distributors submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala seeking his intervention to resolve the problem soon.
LPG dealers, distributors and retailers had formed a joint struggle committee with representatives from LP Gas Distributor Association, LP Gas Dealers Association, LP Gas Retailers Association and Nepal Gas Dealer Association to pressurize the government for their demands to be heard.
The LPG bottling companies were on strike halting import of the cooking gas. Their two major demands include increase of current quota to up to 10,000 metric tones per month and compensation on loss of transportation be provided.
