PM Prachanda inspects flood hit areas

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' on Wednesday inspected the Saptakoshi flood affected areas and met displaced people in Sunsari district.
PM Prachanda along with a team of Bharat Mohan Adhikari of CPN (UML) and Upendra Yadav of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) reached Sunsari. He promised the displaced people to take necessary steps to support the affected people at the earliest.
According to reports, PM Prachanda acquired information about the damages and rescue operations from senior officials of the security and administrative bodies of the district. He also directed to repair the damaged embankments that caused inundation in the villages.
The number of the displaced people has croosed 50,000, while scores of people have been reportedly missing, as most of the western VDCs in the Sunsari district inundated after the water of Saptakoshi river overflowed and eroded the embankments.
Some 5,000 residents of Bihar and Supoul of India have also been displaced due to the flood.
The District Natural Disaster Relief Committee along with the Nepal Army personnel and police, have been carrying out rescue operations with the help of the NA choppers, boats and elephants. However, the rescue operation has been effective due to climatic conditions. |
