Transport workers' unions have brought traffic to a complete standstill in the Koshi Zone on Saturday. They rendered traffic disruption protesting Protesting against the police for forcing a driver to sign a false statement.
Due to the strike, no short- or long-distance passenger buses and goods carriers plied on the roads in the major urban centers of the zones like Biratnagar, Dharan, Itahari, Inaruwa, and Dhankuta. However, a few motorcycles and rickshaws were seen on the streets.
The transport workers have claimed that the driver of the bus, Hem Narayan Uraw, after he was arrested by police, was forced to sign a written statement that said he had reversed the bus after it ran over Dev to deliberately kill him.
They have also demanded that the truth must prevail after a thorough investigation warning that from tomorrow onwards whole eastern region will be brought to a halt for an indefinite period.
Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs' Association too, in agitators' support, demanded that the police must carry out its investigation once again based on the facts. |
