CAN Info-tech 2007: A leap forward in ICE technology

Following the foot step of the new advents globally occurred in information, communication and entertainment technology, Nepal is also stepping forwards in the adaptation of such technologies.

The "CAN Info-tech", the only biggest festival of ICE technology has already accomplished a dozen years of its initiation. The preparation of the festival for 2007 slated to kick off from Tuesday (9 January) hints Nepal is doing a leap forward in the adaptation of ICE technology.

CAN Info-tech 2007, an annual ICE festival has been observing the jostling crowd year after the year. The experts of the ICE technology undertake the huge participation in the festival as a clear yardstick of the scope and progress and emerging application of technologies in the nation.

Conceiving the motto “e-Nepal, New Nepal.”, Computer Association of Nepal (CAN), the apex body of professionals and companies involved in the IT sector are organizing of CAN Info-Tech 2007.

According to the organizers, the event of this year will be covering a wide range of the performance along with the showcases of varieties of electronic equipments. Another notable characteristic of this festival will be the gathering of the experts on the relative fields will speak in a part of the event.

The organizers have finalized a list of six international speakers; Asank Desai, president of ASOCIO and CEO of Mumbai-based Mast Tech, UNESC-AP director, two IT experts from Intel Singapore and one each from AMI Singapore and Mumbai Red Hat. According to C N Upadhyaya, program coordinator and vice-president of CAN, latest innovations made in the field of information and communication technology will be showcased at the event. Apart from that, various Internet service providers, IT colleges and other professional training houses will display their products and services.

Computers priced at US$ 100, low-priced laptops, close circuit televisions (CCTVs), and latest software of Microsoft and other software development companies will be the major attractions of the event.

With a budget of seven million rupees this year, the annual Festival is aimed at showcasing latest technological developments both in products and services, and creating awareness about ICT applications beside promoting Nepal’s IT sector across the world.

To, the usual stalls of various exhibitors, there will be a live musical concert there will be a blood donation camp at the venue this year. The organizers have decided to donate one computer to the Blood Donors’ Association on the occasion.

CAN Info-Tech, first organized in 1994 inside a small hall of Bluestar Hotel, today, has evolved as a platform, wherein, apart from trading of ICT related goods, discussions on shaping the future of ICT sector and the country take place.
