Day curfew imposed in Kalaiya, Birgunj and Janakpur

As the unrest continued in the eastern Terai region on Sunday as well, the local administration offices clamped the daytime curfews in Kalaiya of Bara, Birjung of Parsa and Janakpur of Dhanusha.

District Administration Office (DAO) of Bara renewed the curfew for 13-hour from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm in Kalaiya municipality and surrounding areas to bring the worst situation under control.

On Saturday, a protestor of Madheshi Janaadhikar Forum (MFJ) Asraf Ali Ansari was killed in firing resorted by police in Kalaiya.

Similarly, the Parsa DAO put the curfew from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm in Birgunj to thwart the violent activities.

Dhanusha DAO too imposed a nine hour curfew in Janakpur municipality from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday. Protesters had vandalized residences of NC leader Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, Lila Koirala and Ananda Prasad Dhungana Saturday night.

However, Lahaan, the epicenter of the Terai unrest, remained comparatively calm on Sunday.
